Timeframes for creating a Corporate Video: A Step-by-Step Breakdown

When planning a video for your company, having a clear and realistic timeline of work is essential. It helps you understand the process and prepare for each stage.

At Corporate Vision, we place great importance on timing and strategic planning, and while each project has its own unique needs, this breakdown serves as a reference timeline for producing a 5-minute corporate video, allowing you to anticipate the steps involved and ensure a smooth production journey.

Step 1: Making the Decision

Everything begins with the decision to create a video, and understanding the purpose behind it is the best first step. Whether it’s for internal communications, B2C/B marketing or a brand awareness campaign; knowing your "why" sets the tone for everything that follows.

Step 2: Finding the Right Production Partner

Finding the right production company to bring your vision to life is key. You’ll want to consider factors like budget, expertise, past portfolio and your trust in the company’s ability to manage the entire process — from concept to delivery. After selecting the company, ensure you have clear quotations and/or contracts signed between both parties.

Step 3: In-Depth Brief & Research (Week 1 – 2)

This is where the groundwork begins. Its vital for the client to be forthcoming with all information and objectives, and for the production team to dive into researching your business, the sector, your target audience and key messaging. This ensures the video aligns with your goals, and communicates the right message to your audience.

Step 4: Concept Development & Visual Direction (Week 2 – 3)

Once the client brief and research is complete, the creative process kicks in. Here, the structure, tone, and visual style are developed through scripting and mood-boarding. This stage is crucial in making sure the video has the right information, look and feel to match your brand and objectives.

Step 5: Pre-Production Planning (Week 3 – 4)

Pre-production is all about planning. At this point, shooting schedules are finalized, locations are secured, permits are obtained, and the crew and equipment are booked. It’s all about making sure everything is ready before the cameras start rolling.

Step 6: “Lights, Camera, Action!” (Week 4 – 5)

With all the planning in place, it’s time to shoot. Typically, a full day of filming for a corporate video translates to 1 minute of edited footage, while more complex commercials may result in 30 seconds of usable footage per day.

Step 7: Offline Post-Production (Week 5 – 8)

After filming wraps up, post-production begins. The first stage is called offline and it includes organising and making selects of all the footage, editing the footage, selecting music and making notes of any special effects (infographics, vfx, etc) to be made.

Step 8: Review, Feedback, Revisions & Delivery (Week 9)

Once the first cut is ready, it’s time for review. You’ll provide feedback, and the production team will make any necessary revisions to ensure the final product meets the clients expectaions.

Step 9: Online Post-Production (Week 10)

With final edit tweaks out of the way, the final polishing stage begins, this includes color grading the footage, adding final narration, and incorporating any graphics or animations. This stage is where the raw footage is transformed into a polished, professional video, and made available to the client in a variety of formats, including online ready files and master ProRes files.
